My stereo is a
mix of stereo equipment I have had in 4 other vehicles over the past 15
years. When something sounds good, I have a hard time getting rid of it. All the components perform very well still, so, why fix what
ain't broke? Let me explain.
Three of my amplifiers
are Alphasonic amps. They are very clean, each rated at less than .05% THD.
One of these is rated at less than .01% THD. The fourth amplifier is a new
JLAudio 500-watt Bass amp, rated also at less than .05% THD.
The amps are mounted
in the frunk, in a CyKlops-built powder-coated aluminum rack, hinged on the strut
brace to allow easy access to the battery, spare tire, and A2W components
beneath.
And, the coolest part is that thanks to these Ford molexes:
...the entire amp rack is now removable in about 5 minutes for track days, which lops about 50 lbs off my front end. The vents allow air to pass up through the hood.
The speakers are: JL
Audio 12" sub (forgot which one, but it was the good one... heh...), four Kicker Impulse two-ways in the factory locations, Kenwood tweeters run with Pioneer component midrange-woofers in custom speaker enclosures all in the doors
... the factory "sub" beneath the driver seat was removed. MKII tweeters were added recently for extra sibilance.
The Sub is mounted in a custom fiberglass enclosure behind the passenger seat, covered with vinyl.
What MKI.5 would be complete without some MKII tweeters?
Up until recently the Control items were:
Kenwood Tuner/Tapedeck/CD 12-disc Changer, Kenwood EQ, with a JLAudio
Subwoofer level control. This was revised thanks to my Macbook Pro, which has taken a much more active role in not just my sound system, but peformance aspects such as the TVIS system and the display/control of gauges, sensors, and electronics. Sound comes via firewire and a Presonus interface, and iTunes is controlled wirelessly from my iTouch which also serves as a multi-gauge display and controller.
