Low-profile Mirror Magic for the MKI (85-89) Toyota MR2!

The rather large original engine manufacturer (OEM) mirror designs leave something to be desired in the way of aerodynamics and styling. Maintaining the power functions while respecting the lines of the car can be a particular challenge when shopping for aftermarket options, and so CyKlops has a solution which provides the best of both worlds: we modify the OEM mirrors to retain all functions and streamline the shape for tasteful yet exotic appeal. Pictured here are results on the 1985-1989 Toyota MR2:

The stock Toyota mirror (on the driver/left side, below) appears huge by comparison:

The modification keeps the folding/swivel functions, electronics, and mounting for that OEM fit, while providing the lines the car SHOULD have had from factory!

- Optional LED signal-lighting is available, in both forward or backward-facing (through one-way glass) locations.

- LED style, color, location and arrangement are made to your order!

- Optional camera mounts available.

- Repair of all mirror parts/functions available, including motors/electronics and plastic welding

- LED lighting installation on ANY mirrors available.

- Have a mirror in mind and want it on your MR2? We can make a custom mount!

Core trade-in OEM mirrors/mounts are required. Core-charge will apply for non-exchange.

Custom intercooling, tubing, intake manifold replenum, 70mm throttle-body (Linclon LS), catch-can, servo-controlled TVIS, 4" aluminum intake, one-of-a-kind external top-exit wastegate dumptube/scoop, and our special coatings!

Pictured here is Gandalf's 1988 MKI.5 3sgte-swapped MR2, which is a good poster-child for CyKlops innovations and custom work. The GT3040/3082 turbo spools to 200 ft-lbs of rwtq by a mere 3490 RPM, thanks to the smooth and short airflow through the large end-tanked A2W intercooler, sidefeed 8-runner re-plenummed intake manifold, and servo-controlled TVIS. This resulted in record spool from the big turbo, which outspools many smaller turbos. Even on the stock ecu, the car produced 300 whp at 17 psi. We are excited to see how it will respond to tuning and some 1050cc injectors from FIC!

the Cellotaur

The Cellotaur Celloton (Cello Humano Rosso) is a renowned electric cello designed and built by CyKlops owner Martin Johann Kloppers. It is simultaneously a sculpture, painting, and a living instrument. Completed and debuted in 2003 for a Feeding Like Butterflies performance at the legendary Sidetrack Cafe, it garnered instant attention, and remains one of the most photgraphed instruments in the world.

Featuring an electric bridge from Barbera Transducers, it offers a clean solid-body sound without the usual feedback from a hollow-body instrument, making it ideal for huge distortions or ovedrives and effects, and playing in a loud ensemble setting.

Additionally it allows for the ability to play standing up, utilizing a heavy-duty drum hardware tripod. The cello can be securely leaned into the body, and it's cello-ergonomic position feels surprisingly natural, nearly identical to a traditional seated cello position. I also has a traditional seating/endpin design that can be swapped in in seconds.

Electric Conversions

We also perform electric conversions and custom finishes on traditional hollow-body instruments. This Emerald Cello was converted from a Japanese-made plywood student model cello and outfitted with the latest cello bridge technology from Barbera Transducers, giving it warm blended electro-acoustic timbre. Hand-painted and finished with the equivalent of 250 coats of clear, this cello always looks fantastic for the camera.

the Global Drums

The Global Drums, the largest drums in Canada, were completed and debuted in 2013, consisting of TIG-welded all-aluminum frames which included recycled truck driveshafts. This continued outside-the-box thinking helped earn a "Courage to Innovate" Award nomination (Edmonton, AB, 2013).

The drums can be raised, lowered, and tilted for different configurations. G1 (four-foot diameter) can be played horizontally directly overhead, for example. They are strong yet lightweight, and easliy maneuvered, but do not shift on the ground when played due to impact-absorbing flex provided by the frame-in-frame suspension design.

Each drum has its own accessory bar that extends across the back of the drum, for mounting lights and mics etc. The bars move with the drums, so that if quick changes are made between performance pieces or scenes, the lights and mics always stay aligned.

TIG-welded aluminum, then stretched and sewn, all in-house here at CyKlops. We are one of the only businesses in Canada capable of producing these skins, and there are very few in North America who can do so.

Global 1 - skin diameter = 48 inches

Global 2 - skin diameter = 38 inches

Global 3 - skin diameter = 31 inches

In 2014 two more drums were added, G4 and G5, which completed the original plan for a five-drum set. This creates the ability for a drummer to perform in 360 degrees.

Global 4 - skin diameter = 28 inches

Global 5 - skin diameter = 24 inches

The Global Drums are featured by the band PULSE. Visit the PULSE website to see live performance pictures.

the Exotaur

Meeting flight restrictions and travelling safely with a cello, or any large instrument, is a terrific concern in today's performance world. The Exotuar is a cello flight-proof cage - an exo-skeleton for your precious instrument. This robust solution provides protection against impact and crushing forces that are an unfortunate reality with checked baggage. You would be amazed to see the abuse that even one flight can exact on your case! Scraping, etching, cutting, tearing, and denting can all be expected as normal "wear", and that's just the beginning.

The Exotaur fits over standard cello cases, and especially in combination with cases that have good insulation properties such as styrofoam, it forms a double measure of protection.

Many cases are often referred to as "flight" cases, but fail to provide adequate protection against being dropped, or crushing weight. The Exotaur is designed to compliment such cases, and provides the following features:

- Thick tubular TIG-welded construction, with an ABS-lined aluminum baseplate to ensure maximum strength-to-weight ratio

- Steel hinges and spin-handle bolts to secure the rear-entry door

- Heavy-duty longboard (skateboard) trucks, bearings and wheels provide a smooth quiet suspension which dissapates vibration

- Designed to store flat for easy packing and will only roll if upright - airport personnel have been known to break off wheels to prevent rolling in a stored position!

- Utilizes ordinary foam roller-cushions available from local hardware stores, for easy and inexpensive replacement

- Weight = 30 lbs

- Airport-approved!

*Note* Combined with most ordinary cases and cellos, it will meet ordinary checked luggage weight restrictions of 50 lbs, but because ANY cello is considered "oversize", an oversize/overweight charge usually applies. This oversize charge automatically accomodates a weight of 70 lbs, which is more than enough to include the weight of a much heavier (electric) cello contained in the Exotaur.

We are calculating according to restrictions used across North America. Smaller carriers or overseas carriers may have their own rules and limits. Be sure to inform us of your location and usual flight destinations, and we can determine the best design solution for your needs.
